Jellybaby On A Roll For Cork At Cowes Week

Cowes Week - which concludes at the weekend - has found good sailing conditions in the current difficult overall weather pattern, thanks to the Solent's changing nature as each day goes on, and the dynamic nature of the tides. It suits some boats and crews better than others, and it seems to suit the Jones family's J/122 Jellybaby from Cork better than most.

With crew strength beefed up with the likes of Rob McConnell of Dunmore East on board, Jellybaby would have been on the evening's podium every day since things started last Saturday, but Monday's race found her losing another good result to OCS, and an 18-point penalty to currently place her a close third overall.

However, with possibly two races today and one more tomorrow, Jellybaby will see a discard kick in to move her back to top place, and she is already well ahead of Mike O'Donnell's J/122 Darkwood back in the 14th slot.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.

At A Glance - Cowes Week dates

Cowes Week is traditionally held during the week beginning on the first Saturday after the last Tuesday in July (except where the tides make the traditional dates virtually unworkable).
