Organisers have formally announced details of the 2025 combined regatta initiative for teams from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Ireland.

Following an inaugural meeting last December, four 2025 regattas in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Wales have combined to develop the Irish Sea Nation’s Cup, fostering goodwill and encouraging regatta participation by visiting yachts.

A draft Notice of Race is downloadable here, and organisers have also explained how the well-received Cup initiative will work.

The regattas are:

After all four regattas, the winning nation will be awarded the Irish Sea Nation’s Cup.

Each nation will be ranked in order depending on the performance of the best keelboat of that nation at the regatta. Bonus points will be awarded to the Nation with the best percentage of visiting boats.

The performances will be rated according to the best performance in each keelboat class, in accordance with the formula:

Total points scored

____________________________________

Number of races x Number of boats in class

Using a low-point scoring system, each country’s score is combined with the visitor bonus and fed into the table.

Each venue will appoint an “ambassador” boat to encourage sailing colleagues to travel to events.

A visitor’s bonus will be applied per the following table:

The league table will be updated after each event. As the events are completed, the updated tables could look like the illustration below, with arbitrary results here only for illustrative purposes:

There is an opportunity for nations to improve their scores by increasing the number of boats participating in away events.

Organiser says all sailors can expect a warm welcome at every regatta, with an opportunity to represent their country and compete for the prize for the best national performance.
