A fortnight after the 64th Endeavour Trophy, there are still no overall results due to protest appeals at Britain's 'champion of champions' event.
As Afloat reported on the day, Northern Ireland 505 ace Mike Sims and Rob Gullan took the overall trophy, and in a show of strength from Irish dinghy sailors, Cork's Chris Bateman was second.
Since then, protests and appeals have followed the event's conclusion.
Sailworld published a story on 14th October entitled 'All change in the Endeavour Trophy bylined to host the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club', which set out what happened after a major results change occurred after a redress decision was revisited.
Sims and Gullan were originally granted redress in Race 3 when their outhaul failed, which had put them first overall. However, upon reviewing RRS 61, the Protest Committee realised the ruling might have been incorrect and reopened the hearing, now chaired by international judge Mike Butterfield. The committee concluded there was no improper act or omission by the Race Committee or Organising Authority, as Melges 15 had been reasonably contracted to supply and maintain identical boats. As a result, the criteria for redress under RRS 61.4(b)(1) were not met, and the redress was withdrawn, though Sims is appealing. With racing compressed to one day due to Storm Amy and no discards in the four-race series, the revised outcome significantly affects the final standings.
Following enquiries to RCYC this week, event organiser Edwin Buckley told Afloat on October 16th: "Unfortunately, until the appeal results are published, we are not able to comment"
A notice on the RCYC site on October 17th says, "Endeavour Trophy 2025 results are under review following an appeal. Confirmed results will be released upon completion of the process"
The Endeavour Trophy is a distinctive event in UK dinghy sailing. Conducted annually on the tidal waters of the Crouch and Roach rivers, it is a three-day invitational event. The guest list is carefully selected from National Champions of recognised fleets. The RYA regards The Endeavour as the top achievement in that year’s dinghy sailing, crowning a ‘Champion of Champions’.
