Hong Kong will host the opening round of the 2027 Rolex SailGP Championship on January 23–24, bringing the international foiling catamaran circuit to the city for the first time.

The event will be based at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, with the championship's fleet of identical F50 catamarans expected to race at speeds exceeding 100 km/h on a course close to the waterfront.

SailGP confirmed on Tuesday, 13th of October, that American Express will be the title sponsor of the inaugural Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix and announced ticket sales arrangements for the event.

Hong Kong Opens 13-Event Championship Calendar

The Hong Kong debut will launch a 2027 championship programme featuring 12 scheduled Sail Grand Prix events and a season-ending Grand Final, with the final venue and date still to be confirmed.

After Hong Kong, the championship moves to Perth, Australia, on February 20–21, then returns to San Francisco in April and Bermuda in May. European venues include Portsmouth, Germany's Sassnitz, Valencia and Rome, with further events scheduled in Canada, New York, Rio de Janeiro and Dubai.

SailGP CEO and co-founder Sir Russell Coutts said Hong Kong was an important addition to the championship's international calendar. "Hong Kong is an incredibly important market for SailGP and the perfect venue to begin our 2027 Season," Coutts said.

The event will follow SailGP's established stadium racing format, with spectators watching from shore as the foiling catamarans compete over two days.

Tickets on Sale from October 27

General ticket sales for the Hong Kong event open Tuesday, October 27, after advance booking periods for American Express cardholders (October 21–22) and SailGP+ members (October 23–26). Waterfront Grandstand tickets are priced at HK$700 for one day or HK$1,120 for the weekend. Family and children's ticket options will also be available.

The Kai Tak Grandstand will offer views of the racecourse, with live commentary and screens covering the racing. Further event and ticket information is available on the official SailGP Hong Kong event website.

SailGP first confirmed the Hong Kong event in May, when it announced its expanded 2027 calendar, as reported by Afloat. The latest announcement confirms the ticketing arrangements and title sponsorship ahead of the championship's first visit to the city.
