A record fleet of 36 classic yachts will line Sydney Harbour this weekend for the 2025 Club Marine Sydney Hobart Classic Yacht Regatta.
The three-day event, hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia from 12–14 December, showcases yachts built before 1995 and brings together past contenders of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. It is the seventh edition of the regatta since 2019.
Several former Sydney Hobart Overall and Line Honours winners return. Many first raced more than half a century ago.
Headline entries include Fidelis, the 1966 Line Honours winner; Margaret Rintoul, which set a race record in 1951; Nerida, the 1950 Overall winner; and Anitra V, a regular top performer since the inaugural 1945 race.
Love & War, the Overall winner in 1974, 1978 and 2006, will also feature ahead of its Grand Veterans Division appearance in the 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart. Wild Oats, winner in 1993 and 2014, and Solveig, the 1953 Line Honours and 1954 Overall winner, add further pedigree.
“These boats hold some of the greatest stories in Australian yachting,” said David Champtaloup, Chair of the CYCA Classic Yacht Committee. “The level of care owners put into restoring and racing them keeps the history of the Sydney Hobart alive.”
Champtaloup will race aboard his own classic yacht, Caprice of Huon, launched in 1951.
Australian sailing icon Gordon Ingate, aged 99, is also set to compete on Jasnar. Ingate, a former America’s Cup helmsman and multiple world champion, is one of the CYCA’s most celebrated sailors.
