The waterfront bookmakers were refusing to take any bets for the last two days of Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta on James Dwyer's weird and wonderful Classic Half Tonner Swuzzlebubble from Cork for the Class 2 IRC win, and sure enough she finished with bullets right to the end, discarding only the hiccup of a fourth on Friday morning.

Colin Kavanagh's J/97 Jeneral Lee from Howth matched this in a way, with a straight line of seconds except for Friday's first race with its eminently discardable 3rd, while third place went to the all-black First Something-or-Other Allig8r raced by Brendan Foley of The George, which must have been like an oven these past few days (the all black Allig8r, that is).

Swuzzlebubble on the double with ECHO

No matter what way they timed her, Swuzzlebubble kept winning, and that included her showing under ECHO where her final lineup was 1,(3),2,1,3,2 to give her 9 points against the 11 of John Conlon's Humdinger of Arklow, while Frank Whelan of Greystones, who has been making the scene earlier this year with the Elliott 57 Opal, downsized by more than 50% to race Crazy Diamond (geddit?) in this Regatta, taking third overall in Class 2 ECHO.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
