Cork Harbour Festival visitors will have a rare opportunity to hear one of Ireland’s leading authorities on currachs and naomhóga this weekend.
Acclaimed author Breandán Mac Conamhna will speak at Cork City Library at 3 pm on Saturday, June 6, as part of the Cork Harbour Festival programme.
The event has been organised by Naomhóga Chorcaí in association with Cork City Libraries.
Mac Conamhna’s latest book, The Curraghs and Naomhóga of Ireland, explores the history and evolution of Ireland’s traditional skin boats.
The publication traces their role in exploration, transport and fishing, while also examining their continued relevance as a modern leisure craft.
Drawing on extensive research, the book highlights the importance of currachs and naomhóga in Ireland’s maritime and cultural heritage.
The Cork Harbour Festival talk offers audiences an opportunity to hear directly from the author about the development of these traditional vessels and the communities that built, used and preserved them over generations.
The event is open to members of the public and forms part of a wider programme celebrating Cork Harbour’s maritime history, culture and waterways.
