As ISORA racers prepare for their second offshore from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead this Saturday, Irish boats top the Viking Marine Musto Offshore Points Series, with Royal St. George's J122 Aurelia skippered by Chris Power Smith is leading.

  • Aurelia leads the Viking Marine Musto Offshore Points Series
  • Rockabill VI's O'Higgins holds three coastal mini-series wins
  • Next week's race to Holyhead is crucial ahead of the D2D Race

The 33-boat fleet, drawn from both sides of the Irish Sea, has already sailed seven races this season and is counting five in the Championships' high points scoring system.

On 272.9 points, Aurelia has an eight-point margin over Paul O'Higgins' 10.80, Rockabill VI – despite O'Higgins having won all three of the Irish coastal mini series races – thanks to a second-place weighted score for Aurelia in last week's first offshore from Holyhead.

Lying third is Class One yacht, Paul and Sam Kitteringham's Elan 350, finally, from Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club on 230.

Not only is next Saturday's 55-mile run back to Holyhead crucial for points in the Offshore Series, but it will also be another marker of form as the fleet builds up to the June 10th season highlight, the 280-mile Volvo Dun Laoghaire Dingle Race.

A good turnout is expected for race eight, even though some Pwllheli dropouts have been Kitteringham's Elan 350, Cris Miles's J111 Jezebel from Pwllheli (fifth overall last weekend), and Brian Dixon's Gelert.
