Belgian skipper Quentin Debois departed Cadiz on Tuesday, 6th January to begin his solo Atlantic crossing attempt. He aims to set a new east–west record on a Mini 6.50.

An official commissioner from the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) will start the clock once Debois’s boat crosses the line between Puerto Sherry and the port of Cadiz. He must cover 7,200 km to San Salvador in the Bahamas in under 30 days to claim the record.

“Green light!” the team announced after a period of technical preparation and standby that began on 22 December in Cadiz. Weather conditions are now right for the departure.

UPDATE: On 6 January at 10:59:36 UTC, Debois crossed the start line in Cadiz, Spain, bound for San Salvador, Bahamas. The time to beat is 30 days and 22 hours.
