It's a case of 'First up, best dressed' for two solitary Dublin Bay 21 keelboats swinging from their moorings situated just off the bandstand at Dun Laoghaire's East Pier this week.
Estelle (blue) and black-hulled beauty Garavogue were the only boats berthed in otherwise empty east and west bights ahead of the traditional lift-in scheduled for a fortnight's time (April 12th).
As regular Afloat readers know, the restored 'twentyones' vintage one-design wooden yacht fleet made a pretty picture on their new moorings last season.
This season's initial two will be joined by another three on the East bight at Ireland's biggest boating centre soon. The fleet will race in the 2025 DBSC summer season that starts this month.
As Afloat reported previously, the newly laid dedicated trot of seven moorings gives the Edwardian fleet a prominent home.
Seven of the craft were built between 1903 and 1906, and the rebuilt boats, after an extensive restoration project undertaken by Hal Sisk, form the nucleus of a reborn class in Dublin Bay.
In 2021, the boats were welcomed back to the Bay with a special DBSC gun salute from committee boat Mac Lir and are now regularly racing again with their first 2025 race scheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd.
