Shane MacCarthy and Hugh McNally of the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire, sailing Mr. Potato Head, pressed home their early advantage at the Irish Flying Fifteen National Championships with an impressive heavy air performance that saw the pair take three wins from four races on Sunday at Waterford Harbour.
The former GP14 World Champion had a seven-point winning margin in the 19-boat fleet from defending champions Niall O'Brien and Ronan O Briain from Connemara. on 15 points. Third was Ian Mathews and Alan Green sailing Mike Wazowski on 24.
The first day's racing on Friday was lost due to a lack of wind, and after two sailed on Saturday the Race Officer John Leech amended the sailing instructions to run four races instead of the scheduled two on Sunday.
