After a long wait for a light south-easterly breeze to settle, Niall Coleman and Conor Grimley won the opening race of the Flying Fifteen National Championships at the National Yacht Club on Dublin Bay.
Sailing Flyer, the pair finished first in a fleet of 29 boats. Results are provisional as of 19:57 on Friday, 19 September.
Racing was shortened at the end of the first downwind with the breeze barely above five knots.
Connemara's Dermot Flaherty and Brendan Mac Donnacha, in Inchamakinna, placed second. Dun Laoghaire's Sean Craig and Alan Green, racing Mach FFive, were third.
John Lavery and David O'Brien sailed fmff to fourth place. Connemara's Checkmate, helmed by Niall O Brien with Ronan O Briain, came fifth.
Peter Murphy and Ciara Mulvey’s Hera secured sixth, followed by Ffastnet with Robin Hilliard and John Stott in seventh.
Emma Pierce and Ian Smyth’s Stiffler's Mom were eighth, Andrew McCleery and Colin Dougan’s Foxtrot Oscar ninth, and SISU, sailed by Trevor D’Arcy and Alan McClernon, rounded out the top ten.
Racing continues this weekend with three more races scheduled off Dun Laoghaire on Saturday and two final races on Sunday.
