Two Connemara crews hold the top spots after day two of the Flying Fifteen National Championships at the National Yacht Club, Dublin Bay.
Dermot Flaherty and Brendan Mac Donnacha lead in Inchamakinna on 15 points after four races. Niall O'Brien and Ronan O'Briain’s Checkmate sit one point behind on 16.
Peter Kennedy and Stephen Kane in Icarus are third on 27 points. Defending champion Shane McCarthy and Hugh McNally, sailing Mr Potato Head, share fourth with Sean Craig and Alan Green’s Mach Five on 28.
Phil Lawton and Neil O’Hagan’s Puffling lie sixth ahead of John Lavery and David O’Brien in fmff. SISU, helmed by Trevor D’Arcy with Alan McClernon, is eighth.
David Gorman and Chris Doorly in Fomo hold ninth place. Lee Statham and Andy Paul’s Trigger’s Brush complete the top ten.
“The Connemara boats were very consistent today,” said a race organiser. “Sunday should be the toughest yet, with 20 knots of northerly breeze forecast.”
Racing concludes on Sunday with two races scheduled in what is expected to be the strongest wind of the series.
