National Yacht Club sailors John Lavery and William Russell are sixth overall at the Flying Fifteen European Championship in Palma, Mallorca, with Peter and Juliette Kennedy of Strangford Lough Yacht Club one place behind in seventh.
The two Irish crews are among the leading challengers in the 32-boat fleet after four races, with the championship scheduled to conclude on Saturday (October 10th).
Lavery and Russell Lead Irish Challenge
Lavery and Russell, sailing FFMF (IRL 4071), have recorded finishes of 11th, 14th, fifth and sixth to accumulate 36 points.
Their improved performances in the third and fourth races have put them within seven points of fifth-placed Charles and Charlie Apthorp of Britain.
Peter and Juliette Kennedy, sailing Icarus (IRL 4134), are seventh overall on 45 points following finishes of 16th, 13th, 12th and fourth.
Their fourth place in the latest race was the strongest Irish performance of Race 4.
British Crews Hold First and Second
Britain's Andy Tunnicliffe and Richard Rigg lead the championship in Raffi on nine points, following finishes of first, third, third and second.
Gregory Wells and Andrew Jameson are second in Maurice on 11 points, having won Race 4 to close the gap to just two points.
Spain's Victor Perez Campos and Mark Branagh are third in Femme Fatale on 23 points.
Black Flag Penalty Hits Mathews
National Yacht Club sailors Ian Mathews and Keith Poole, sailing Mike Wazowski, are 16th overall on 64 points after receiving a black flag disqualification in Race 4.
The pair had previously recorded ninth places in both the second and third races.
David Gorman and Chris Doorly are 21st in Fomo, followed by Niall Meagher and Nicki Matthews in 23rd aboard Shadow Ffax.
Niall and Laura Coleman are 27th in Flyer.
The championship continues in Palma, with the final results due to be decided on Saturday.
