The 2024 Optimist World Championship will be held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from December 5 to 15.

Four talented Irish sailors will represent the nation after qualifying at the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals earlier this year. Competing for Ireland are Patrick Fegan (MYC/RStGYC), sisters Lily and Maeve Donagh (RStGYC/LDYC), and Max O’Hare (RStGYC).

They will be supported by their Argentinian coach Ignacio (Nacho) Varisco and team leader Maria Gil.

With over 50 countries participating and 227 sailors in total, the competition promises to be fierce.

The Irish team has prepared diligently for the championship, participating in various international events, including the British Nationals in Plas Heli, Wales, in August.
