The Irish Squib Class (ISC) recently announced its calendar of events for 2024 at its annual AGM held via Zoom on November 29th.

The meeting, chaired by Class Chairman Ian Travers, drew strong attendance from representatives of both established and new Squib fleets from across the country.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed and agreed on championship events for 2024, which includes the Southern Championships on 8th and 9th June at Baltimore Sailing Club (dates to be confirmed), the Northern Championships on May 25th and 26th at the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, the National Championships on July 26th-28th at Howth Yacht Club, the Eastern Championships on September 7th and 8th at the Royal George Yacht Club, and the Inland Championships on October 12th and 13th at Lough Derg Yacht Club.

"The introduction of Baltimore as a new venue for the class was warmly welcomed"

The introduction of Baltimore as a new venue for the class was warmly welcomed, given the excellent water and shoreside amenities on offer. The ISC plans to encourage the neighbouring Glandore Yacht Club Squib fleet in West Cork to participate, and if the regatta proves successful, Baltimore could become a popular alternative to Kinsale every other year.

Other issues discussed included a summary of class training initiatives completed this year and the promise of further development in 2024.

The ISC will also introduce a standardized approach to event management for the year ahead, including the introduction of a youth entry fee to encourage entries from younger members of the fleet.

The meeting was brought to a close after an engaging fifty minutes of discussion.
