The AIB DBSC Water Wag race on Wednesday, August 13th, saw a turnout of 27 boats in Dun Laoghaire Harbour.

Race Officer Tadgh Donnelly aboard DBSC’s Corinthian set a two-round Windward/leeward course in a warm 4-6 knot SE’ly breeze.

Vincent Delany sailing Pansy led from Sean Craig in Puffin at the first weather mark.

The wind dropped after the first half of the fleet had rounded the leeward gate so the Race Officer shortened the race to finish at the weather mark on the second round.

Craig took the lead on the second beat, but was overtaken by Class Captain Tim Pearson sailing Little Tern as they approached the finish line.

The prize for the race on August 13th is for the Stephens Tankard for Div 1a, the Coffee Jug for Div 1b, and the Pavilion Garden Trophy for Div 2.

After racing, the Wag crews retired to the RStGYC for après sail drinks.

Annual Dalkey Island picnic

On Sunday, August 17th, the Water Wags will visit Dalkey Island for their yearly picnic. Con Con Murphy will begin the race from a rib near Carlisle Pier at 11:00. Two mother ships will accompany the fleet, along with two ribs serving ferrying and rescue roles. This event is a significant historical outing for the Water Wags, as shown by this photo from 1887 below.
