Axiom Spring Series Winners Honoured at Kinsale

Prizewinners in the Axiom Private Clients Spring Series were recognised at Kinsale Yacht Club on Saturday (May 2nd), where Commodore Anthony O’Neill and SCORA Vice Commodore Michele Kennelly presented awards alongside Tom Roche of title sponsor Axiom Private Clients.

The series delivered tight racing across all fleets, with several boats securing double wins under IRC and ECHO.

Spinnaker 1 Split Between IRC and ECHO

Finbarr O’Regan’s J/109 Artful Dodger (KYC) claimed IRC Spinnaker 1, counting four race wins from five.

Stephen Lysaght’s Elan 333 Reavra Too (KYC) was second, with Dan Buckley’s J/109 Justus (KYC) third.

Under ECHO, Gavin Lawlor’s Elan 333 Genesis (KYC) took overall honours.

Artful Dodger was second on handicap, with Justus again third.

Illegal Controls Spinnaker 2

Kieran Kelleher and Coleman Garvey’s 1/4 Ton Illegal (RCYC) dominated IRC Spinnaker 2 with a near-perfect scoreline.

David Marchant’s First 32 Flyover (WHSC) placed second, followed by Samuel Cohen’s First 32 Gunsmoke II (KYC).

The same order held in ECHO, with Illegal completing a clean sweep.

Valfreya Doubles Up in White Sail

David Riome’s Sigma 33 Valfreya (KYC) topped IRC White Sail with four wins from five races.

Patrick Beckett’s Tofinou 8 Miss Charlie (KYC) was second, while Peter and Siobhan Ryan’s Elan 37 Capella of Kinsale (KYC) took third.

In ECHO, Valfreya again led the fleet. Alan Mulcahy’s Dufour 44 Godot (KYC) placed second, with Padraig O’Donovan’s Fastnet 34 Chameleon (KYC) third.

Consistent Performers Across Fleets

Double victories for Illegal and Valfreya, and split honours in Spinnaker 1, were key features of the Axiom Private Clients Spring Series, reflecting competitive fleets and consistent turnout at Kinsale.

Kinsale Yacht Club located in Kinsale, County Cork lies just 120 nautical miles from Wales, 240 from North West France and only 500 from the Galician Coast of North Spain.

Kinsale Yacht Club is only a few minutes walk from every shop, hotel, pub and restaurant in Ireland’s gourmet capital but most significantly it is only 30 km by road from Cork, Ireland’s second city, and between the two lies one the region’s main assets - Cork International Airport - with its daily links to many European capitals.

Club members, of which there are more than 600, race Cruisers, One Design Keelboats and Dinghies.

The club runs inshore and offshore races, has an active cruising scene, a powerboat section and most significantly for any real club, a strong and dynamic junior training programme.

Beyond the club’s own marina is the club house itself and the dinghy park. Within the clubhouse are changing rooms, bar and restaurant all with full wheelchair access. The club’s full-time secretariat, steward and marina manager are there to look after sailing visitors and members alike in a relaxed, informal and fun environment.

The club welcomes new members and has always got room on its members’ yachts for new comers to the sport.
