There is some concern in the Cork Harbour village of Monkstown about the impact on sailing in the future of a plan by Cork County Council to put a car park at the Sand Quay from where Monkstown Bay Sailing Club (MBSC) has sailed its boats since 1970. A 46-page White Paper published by the village’s Heritage Group says: “The proposed car park will compromise the health and safety of sailors, young and old.”

For the third Saturday in succession, dinghy racing had to be cancelled at MBSC over the weekend (October 18/19) due to severe weather.

In April 2022, Monkstown Bay boaters got a pre-season boost with a general tidying up of the town's Sand Quay and boat park.
