The Spanish Galeón Andalucía, a 160-foot-long, full-sized replica built in 2009 at the Punta Umbria shipyard in Huelva, sailed into Cork Harbour this morning on its maiden voyage to Ireland.
As Afloat reported earlier, her visit celebrates the 'European Maritime Days to Play' event.
The reproduction Spanish 17th-century galleon is the Galeón Andalucía, which has headed upriver on the Lee to berth at the city’s Custom House Quay as part of the Cork Harbour Festival.
Such armed merchant vessels were constructed in Spain and Portugal between the 16th and 18th centuries.
The replica galleon boasts six decks and sets seven sails, and Cork will be the first port of call on its inaugural visit to Ireland.
Visitors will be welcomed aboard the replica tall ship along with the European Maritime Days event's lineup of four ship tours (all free) on Saturday, 24 May, as Afloat previously reported, which will follow the city’s first hosting of a major EU European Maritime Day conference.
