Garmin has unveiled a new 360-degree sonar system designed to give anglers a full underwater view around their boat. The system combines the new GT360UHD transducer with a motorised control unit called Spy Pole. Together they deliver a bird’s-eye sonar image of fish and underwater structures in both 2D and 3D.

Garmin says the system allows anglers to scan an area and continue fishing without repeatedly rescanning the same location.

The technology uses OneVü sonar to display detailed imagery in every direction around the boat. Built-in True Motion technology integrates with GPS to maintain the sonar’s correct position while the boat moves. Anglers can store and review sonar imagery covering an area up to a football field using a continuously updated buffer.

Controls are integrated with compatible Garmin chartplotters, allowing users to adjust colours, scanning modes and settings directly from the display. Garmin says the system can also be paired with its LiveScope live sonar. This enables anglers to add a real-time sonar beam overlay and unlock an additional 3D display mode.

Spy Pole Control

The Spy Pole is designed to give anglers independent control of their LiveScope sonar. It allows the transducer to be steered separately from the trolling motor. Users can control the system through a wireless foot pedal, a rod-mounted gesture remote or a chartplotter interface. SpyLock technology allows anglers to lock the sonar beam on a target, while SpyScan mode automatically sweeps the area to search for fish.

Justin Hamner, Garmin professional angler and 2024 Bassmaster Classic champion, said the system changes how anglers can use live sonar. “Since the introduction of LiveScope, anglers have been dreaming of a way to control their LiveScope independently of their trolling motor,” he said. “With Spy Pole, that’s now possible, and you can even control your LiveScope while in anchor lock.”

Pricing And Availability

The GT360UHD transducer has a suggested retail price of £859.99 or €999.99. Spy Pole is available in 42-inch and 49-inch versions priced at £1,729.99 (€1,999.99) and £1,899.99 (€2,199.99).

Susan Lyman, Garmin vice president of consumer sales and marketing, said the new sonar system improves situational awareness on the water. “The added situational awareness of 360-degree imaging – coupled with the precision and convenience of the Spy Pole – makes it easier than ever to search for and target fish,” she said.

Garmin says the system is designed to integrate with its Force and Force Pro trolling motors and existing LiveScope sonar technology.
