As previously reported on Afloat.ie, Canoeing Ireland will receive a total of €1.9 million — €475,000 a year over four years — as announced in Sport Ireland’s High Performance allocations last week.

The per annum increase is more than double the €216,000 allocated in 2024 — a higher percentage rise than any other sport has enjoyed.

It’s also more than 10 times what Canoeing Ireland received in high performance funding as recently as six years ago.

In individual athlete allocations, Liam Jegou, who placed seventh in the canoe slalom final in Paris 2024, is carded as World Class and receives €25,000 for 2025 towards his LA 2028 campaign.

Alongside him, Ronan Foley, Alistair McCreery, Jake Cochrane and Jegou’s Paris 2024 teammates Noel Hendrick and Madison Corcoran will get €18,000 each as International category paddlers.

Further details on this year’s allocations can be found in Sport Ireland’s report in English and as Gaeilge.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
