Belfast Harbour is hosting an international port management workshop this week, led by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The nine-day programme runs from 25 March to 1 April and brings together senior port professionals from countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands. The training is delivered in partnership with Port of Cork Company and Dublin Port Company, with support from Irish Aid.
Sessions will focus on digital port management, data security, port law, accounting and infrastructure management. UNCTAD said the programme is designed to strengthen efficiency and competitiveness across global port operations.
Mark Assaf said, “Ports are strategic gateways at the heart of national economies and global supply chains.” He added, “Through this programme, we foster the exchange of experience and best practices among port professionals.” Assaf said delegates will gain insight into Belfast Harbour’s recent digital transformation and how innovation can improve operations.
Port Director Michael Robinson said the organisation was “excited to welcome colleagues from ports around the globe”. He added: “We look forward to the opportunity to share experiences and best practices with port professionals from elsewhere in the world.”
UNCTAD, headquartered in Geneva, supports developing countries through trade, investment and technology initiatives. Organisers said the workshop also aims to strengthen international cooperation and support more sustainable global trade systems.
