The 2025 Drogheda Sail Training Bursary Voyages successfully concluded with 26 young trainees. The participants, aged 14 to 17, sailed on the historic gaff ketch vessel 'Maybe'.
Under Skipper Adam Spargo and his crew, they experienced a week of challenges, navigating from Louth to Scotland and the Isle of Man. The trainees faced a wide range of weather conditions that tested their teamwork and resilience.
A presentation at Harbourville marked the end of this year's programme in June. Families and community members gathered to celebrate the young sailors' achievements.
Sponsors, including Collette Moss from Louth County Council and Helen Bennett from Irish Cement, presented certificates. Local TD Ged Nash also attended the event, offering presentations and encouragement.
Shona McManus, representing Drogheda Port Company, highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. She noted, “This bursary scheme, now in its twelfth year, relies on strong support from corporate sponsors. The collaboration brings enriching experiences to young people.”
The participants developed vital life skills and formed lasting friendships during their voyages. Their experience marks a significant chapter of discovery and personal growth.
