Fresh detail on plans for a national watersports campus at Dún Laoghaire Harbour has been outlined as the harbour sets out its stall for marine leisure.
Dun Laoghaire sailor Paddy Boyd said the project remains central to long-term development of the south Dublin harbour.
Speaking on Newstlak Radio, Boyd said the campus would bring together multiple disciplines in one location.
“It will provide facilities for sailing, rowing, canoeing, triathlon and swimming,” he said.
He added that the concept is comparable to the national sports campus at Abbotstown, with a focus on shared infrastructure and access.
An event centre is also planned to support international competition and broaden public participation.
Harbour operations director Tim Ryan said the wider strategy is designed to connect more people with the water.
“It’s about getting everybody closer to the water and making use of the amenity,” he said.
The approach, backed by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, aims to increase activity both on and off the water.
Alongside these plans, a floating sauna is due to open in the coming weeks as an early-stage amenity.
Operated by Helios Sauna, the facility will be located in Coal Harbour and accessed via a pontoon from the Old Pier.
The 12-person structure will combine heat sessions with a controlled cold plunge pool, offering an alternative way to experience the harbour environment.
