The Liverpool-registered offshore survey catamaran is alongside Carlisle Pier for a week-long stopover involving crew changes and provisioning
The British-registered offshore survey vessel Roman Rebel has arrived in Dún Laoghaire Harbour for a stopover of between seven and ten days.
The distinctive green-and-white catamaran is berthed alongside Carlisle Pier, where she is undergoing a crew change and taking on provisions, according to local harbour sources.
The 27.5-metre vessel, which has Liverpool as her home port, arrived in Dún Laoghaire on Wednesday, 7 October.
French-Built Survey Catamaran
Built in France in 2014, Roman Rebel was originally named Bibby Athena before being renamed in 2021.
The specialist vessel is equipped for offshore hydrographic and geophysical survey operations, including seabed investigations and marine data collection.
Her catamaran configuration provides a stable working platform for survey equipment, while the aft deck carries lifting and handling equipment used in offshore operations.
Previous Surveys in Irish Waters
Roman Rebel has previously undertaken offshore investigations in Irish waters.
As Afloat reported in 2022, the vessel was engaged in geophysical survey work for the Emerald floating offshore wind project in the North Celtic Sea.
She was also named in survey operations for the Arklow Bank Wind Park off the Wicklow and Wexford coasts in 2024.
Her current offshore assignment has not been confirmed, and there is no indication that her visit to Dún Laoghaire is connected with survey work inside the harbour.
Carlisle Pier Stopover
The vessel's arrival brings another specialist commercial craft to Dún Laoghaire Harbour, which accommodates visiting survey, research and offshore support vessels alongside its recreational marine activities.
Roman Rebel is expected to remain at Carlisle Pier for approximately a week before resuming operations.
