The RTÉ Radio 1 documentary on the rescue of Galway cousins Sara Feeney and Ellen Glynn after they were swept out to sea on paddleboards in August 2020 is due to be re-broadcast this Bank holiday Monday, June 1st.
As Afloat has reported, the ordeal experienced by the two women and their families before they were rescued by fisherman Patrick Oliver and his son Morgan captured the attention of the country.
The two cousins survived 15 hours at sea in deteriorating weather, having lashed their two boards together after a north-easterly wind swept them off Furbo beach out towards the mouth of the bay.
The two women had no means of communication – Ellen had forgotten her wet bag that normally carried her mobile phone. They were wearing lifejackets, but no wetsuits – only bikinis – and had no food or water.
The award-winning RTÉ Radio 1 Doc on One documentary, Miracle on Galway Bay, includes interviews with the two women, their parents, and key people involved in their rescue.
Miracle on Galway Bay, narrated by Lorna Siggins, produced by Lorna Siggins and Sarah Blake, with sound supervision by John Doyle and Peadar Carney was first broadcast in August 2021, and will be repeated on Monday June 1st, 2026 at 7pm.
