Minister of State Seán Canney has turned the sod on a new €7.03 million Coast Guard station at Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
He was joined at the ceremony by Kevin Boxer Moran, Minister of State at the Office of Public Works.
The Greystones/Wicklow Coast Guard Unit covers cliff, land and sea rescue from Bray to Brittas.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the unit includes 32 personnel and has responded to 52 incidents this year.
The new station will include an operations room, training room, drying room, kitchenette, changing rooms, stores, a boathouse, and boat launch facilities.
The development is part of the Irish Coast Guard’s national building strategy to improve volunteer welfare and operational capacity.
“Our Coast Guard volunteers are the backbone of maritime search and rescue in Ireland,” said Minister Canney.
