The Aran Islands RNLI carried out a medical evacuation off Inis Mór yesterday evening (Thursday, 18 July).
The volunteer crew was requested to launch their all-weather lifeboat at 6:40 p.m. following a request from the Coast Guard to transfer a sick patient off the island.
Weather conditions at the time were good, with clear skies, smooth seas, and a force two wind blowing north-westerly.
Arriving on scene, the crew received a handover from the island doctor. With the assistance of Aran Fire and Rescue Service, the lifeboat crew safely transferred the patient to Rossaveal and into the care of a waiting ambulance crew.
The lifeboat launched under Coxswain Aonghus Ó hIarnáin with six crew members onboard.
Speaking following the call out, Aonghus Ó hIarnáin, Aran Islands RNLI Coxswain, said: ‘We would like to wish the patient a speedy recovery and thank our colleagues in the fire and ambulance service for their cooperation.’
