Against the backdrop of loss-making Harland & Wolff, the group’s Belfast shipyard is carrying out emergency repairs on a 50,386 deadweight tonnes (dwt) tanker.
The shipyard on social media said it had responded swiftly to an emergency request to secure the MT Sled, which requires urgent steel repairs.
The 180 m in length by 32 m in breath Liberian flagged tanker is currently berthed safely at the facilities Belfast Dry Dock.
MT Sled was built in 2005 by SLS Heavy Industries in Busan, South Korea, and the repairs by H&W mark the shipyard’s first collaboration with Rhine Marine.
The tanker arrived in Belfast Harbour last week having sailed across the Irish Sea from Birkenhead on Merseyside.
