British Marine, the trade association for the UK leisure, superyacht, and small commercial marine industry, has appointed Robert Parton as its new President, effective from 18 July 2024.
Having served as President-Elect for the past two years, Robert Parton is set to take on the presidency with a robust agenda aimed at advancing the sector's understanding of sustainability legislation requirements and enhancing training opportunities.
As the owner and Managing Director of Aqueduct Marina, an inland marina and boatyard in Cheshire, Robert brings extensive experience and a passion for the marine industry. Under his leadership, Aqueduct Marina has grown to employ 35 people across various operations and has earned accolades such as The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) Gold Anchors and Clean Marina accreditation, showcasing his commitment to environmental sustainability and industry excellence.
Robert has been an active member of British Marine for over a decade and is recognized as a Marina and Boatyard Operative and End Point Assessor, reflecting his deep involvement and expertise in the marine industry.
His journey in the marine industry began after managing his family’s dairy business for a decade. Recognizing the need for diversification, he opened Aqueduct Marina in 2009. Since then, he has been deeply involved with British Marine, serving on various committees and the board.
Robert is a passionate advocate for training and skills development, emphasising the importance of people as the cornerstone of the industry. His commitment to environmental sustainability and practical approaches to industry challenges is expected to shape his tenure as President, as he aims to help British Marine members navigate the increasing legislative requirements related to sustainability.
In addition to his focus on sustainability, Robert has also demonstrated his dedication to securing vital resources for maintaining the UK's inland waterways, as evidenced by his recent advocacy at the Fund British Waterways event in Westminster.
