British Marine is preparing to launch the BM Academy, a new digital maritime training platform set to transform professional development in the leisure marine sector. The online platform will offer flexible, bite-sized courses designed to support upskilling at every career stage — from newcomers to seasoned professionals.

“The British Marine Training Academy is more than just a new platform; it represents a step change for our industry,” said Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine.

Courses will be accessible on demand, removing barriers such as travel, time away from work and high costs. Topics will range from technical skills and leadership to compliance and innovation.

One of the first offerings, ‘Introduction to the Marine World’, is aimed at new entrants, career changers and businesses onboarding staff. It will serve as a gateway for those looking to enter or grow within the industry. The BM Academy is hosted on a multi-award-winning learning platform and builds on British Marine’s long-standing training expertise.

Key industry players — including Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial, Skandinavian Agency Services, Aqueduct Marina and Bartons Solicitors — have joined as founding partners, helping to shape and fund the initiative.

Malcolm Stewart of Haven KJ Commercial said: “Access to high-quality, flexible training has never been more important. This Academy will play a vital role in developing skills and supporting career progression.”

Jenyfer Ramos of Skandinavian Agency Services added: “We firmly believe that the future success of the marine industry depends on sustained investment in skills and knowledge.”

Robert Parton of Aqueduct Marina commented: “The BM Academy will raise standards and help to retain and attract talent. We are excited to be part of this journey.”

The platform is expected to set a new benchmark for online training in the marine sector. Full launch details are due soon.
