Cronan O’Donnell has been elected chairman of the Irish Marine Federation (IMF).
The election took place during a board meeting at the Düsseldorf Boat Show on Wednesday.
O’Donnell succeeds Gerry Salmon, whose two-year term as chairman concluded at the meeting.
Salmon thanked board members for their support and confirmed he will remain available as vice-chair during the handover period.
“My tenure as chairman comes to an end this week,” Salmon said. “I wish the new incoming chairman well.”
Tributes were paid by members to Salmon for his leadership and role in restarting and stabilising the federation.
“And to Gerry Salmon for all your hard work over the last two years restarting the IMF,” said board member Kenny Rumball.
O’Donnell is General Manager of POD Marine, a specialist boat engine service business based in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
The company was established to meet demand for professional marine engineering services and has nearly two decades of experience representing Volvo Penta in Ireland.
Following his election, O’Donnell thanked the board for its support.
“I hope to build on the momentum with everyone’s help and really establish the federation,” he said.
The IMF represents Ireland’s marine leisure and boating industry across manufacturing, sales, and services.
