Britain’s America’s Cup team has rebranded as GB1 ahead of the 38th edition of the prestigious sailing competition. The new identity was unveiled in Naples, Italy, marking a fresh chapter for the Challenger of Record, Royal Yacht Squadron Racing Ltd. Olympic gold medallist and SailGP Champion Dylan Fletcher MBE was announced as helm.
It will be his second America’s Cup campaign. Fletcher previously co-helmed the British team to the final of the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona, a first for Britain in 60 years. “GB1 is delighted to secure Dylan as our helm for AC38,” said Team Principal Sir Ben Ainslie. “His results on the water don’t lie.” Fletcher said he was “buzzing to be back” and that the team is driven by the desire to go one step further this time.
The GB1 branding reflects British maritime heritage, featuring reds, whites and blues inspired by the Union Jack and signal flags. The reveal coincided with the first joint appearance of the five founding teams of the America’s Cup Partnership (ACP) in Naples.
Teams from New Zealand, Italy, Switzerland, France, and Great Britain gathered to mark the start of a new shared governance structure. “This is a landmark moment,” said GB1 CEO Ian Walker. “The Bay of Naples will be a spectacular arena for these racing machines.”
The ACP will soon confirm dates for the America’s Cup Match. The first AC38 preliminary regatta will take place in Cagliari from 21–24 May 2026.
Youth development remains a focus. Hannah Mills OBE, head of the Athena Pathway Programme, launched applications for Britain’s Youth Team in Naples. “The 38th America’s Cup will be the first time women will race on every boat,” said Mills. “It’s a crucial step for equality in sailing.”
