The captain of a container ship that collided with a jet fuel tanker in the North Sea this week has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, according to Marine Industry News.
Afloat.ie reported on Monday (10 March) that all 37 crew from both vessels were rescued after the incident off Hull, England that left both vessels ablaze — sparking “serious concerns” for the local marine environment.
It later emerged that one crew member from the container ship Solong was missing, prompting a search operation that was called off on Monday evening.
Humberside Police arrested the Solong’s captain, a 59-year-old Russian national, as part of its criminal inquiry into the collision.
Meanwhile, it’s emerged that the Portuguese-flagged Solong failed a safety inspection while in Dublin last July, and later in Scotland in October.
