MS Ireland and Oceans of Hope have published locations and dates for their new sailing programme for 2026.

Locations and course events are as follows for this year:

  • May – Sligo (3-week course)
  • June – Kinsale (4-week course)\
  • July – Galway (Try Sailing)
  • July – Dún Laoghaire (Try Sailing)
  • July – Howth (4-week course)

As Afloat has reported, Oceans of Hope’s Irish branch was spearheaded by Kerryman Stephen Fitzpatrick who has sailed throughout Europe and Ireland with Oceans of Hope UK.

That experience transformed his life by spending time at sea, he has said.

Shirley Foley from Sligo who has participated in a number of sailing challenges spoke at a webinar to launch the sailing programme this week, and explained why she had "found her tribe".

Robert Munns CEO of Oceans of Hope UK spoke at the webinar about the benefits of sailing to the MS community, while Susan Coote from MS Ireland outlined the programme for 2026.

Oceans of Hope UK was established by Munns with Nicola Kaufman in 2016 and over the last 10 years they have hosted many sailing events for people with MS throughout the world.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
