Wicklow RNLI launched both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats last night (Monday, September 1st), following reports of a missing person in the water. The alarm was raised shortly after 21:00 by the Coast Guard.
The Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116 from Dublin, along with Coast Guard land units and local Gardaí, joined in the search efforts.
Coxswain Nicky Keogh commanded the all-weather lifeboat RNLB Bridie O’Shea, while helm Alan Goucher led the inshore lifeboat Dennis-Audrey. The volunteers commenced their search along the Murrough in calm conditions.
After a thorough assessment of the area, no further evidence of the missing person was found. The Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre subsequently stood down all units.
Coxswain Nicky Keogh remarked, “A thorough search of the area was undertaken and with nothing found we were stood down. This was a genuine call with good intent.”
He urged the public to contact emergency services if they witness anyone in distress on the water.
Both lifeboats returned to Wicklow harbour and were made ready for future service.
