Dún Laoghaire Harbour RNLI volunteers launched on Bank Holiday Monday following reports of a swimmer in difficulty at the Forty Foot swimming spot.
The Coast Guard tasked the crew at 3:04pm after concerns for a swimmer beyond the yellow buoys.
Volunteers assembled quickly at the lifeboat station and launched the inshore lifeboat Joval.
However, the lifeboat was stood down while en route as the swimmer had been safely brought ashore.
The crew returned to the station beside the East Pier, where the boat was washed down and made ready for the next callout.
Helm Nathan Burke said the incident highlighted seasonal risks for sea swimmers.
“Sunshine and blue skies might tempt swimmers for a dip, but water temperature might still be below 15°C and being unprepared might lead to cold water shock,” he said.
The RNLI is hosting a water safety talk at 8pm on Wednesday, 29 April at the National Yacht Club in Dún Laoghaire.
Press officer Aoife Ward said the session will cover “risks, preparation, kit, cold water shock, float to live and calling for help”.
She added that a free lifejacket clinic will take place on Saturday, 11 April at the Harbour Plaza from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
