Rosslare Harbour RNLI launched on Saturday to assist two sailors after their yacht got into difficulty off Carnsore Point. The crew of the 24ft yacht contacted the Irish Coast Guard at 12.10 pm after their outboard engine failed.
The all-weather lifeboat launched eight minutes later and made its way to a position two miles north-east of the Fundale Buoy. On arrival, the volunteer crew confirmed the vessel had lost propulsion, but the sailors were safe. Following an assessment, and in agreement with the yacht crew, a tow was established to bring the vessel to Rosslare Harbour.
The lifeboat escorted the yacht safely to the lifeboat pen, arriving at 3 pm. Weather conditions at the time were described as good, with light winds and clear visibility.
After the operation, the yacht crew attended to repairs while the lifeboat was washed down and refuelled for service. Coxswain Keith Miller highlighted the importance of preparation at sea. “Sailors should always carry suitable communication equipment and wear appropriate safety gear,” he said.
Rosslare Harbour RNLI Launch Operations Manager commended the volunteer crew for a successful call-out.
