A final race to the Fastnet Rock saw the conclusion of Calves Week Regatta at Schull Harbour Sailing Club on Friday with points tight at the top of the scoreboard (provisional results published below) in the 61-boat fleet after three breezy races sailed (and one lost to weather on Thursday) on both IRC and ECHO handicaps.
Rockabill Reigns in IRC Zero
Paul O'Higgins's JPK 10.80 Rockabill VI from the Royal Irish Yacht Club took full advantage of Friday's final race - including the leg to Crookhaven for the big boats - to take the overall win by one point from John Treanor's J112 Valentina from the National Yacht Club in a five-boat IRC Zero division. The Burke/Lemass/Rigley syndicate in the First 40, Prima Forte were third and the ECHO division winners.
Radley's Imp Secures Victory in IRC One
George Radley's vintage Holland 39 Imp stayed on top of a ten-boat IRC One Class all week to clinch the overall win by 3.5 points. The Cove Sailing Club yacht kept the J109 challenge at bay, but it was Chris Moore's Powder Monkey from the National Yacht Club in second and James Donegan's Jalapeno from Kinsale Yacht Club in third. On ECHO handicap, Gabby Hogan's Grand Soleil 45 Growler won.
Swuzzlebubble Dominates IRC Two with Three Consecutive Wins
With three wins from. three races, Dave and James Dwyer's half-tonner Swuzzlebubble won the IRC Two division by three points. The Royal Cork crew beat two local Elan 31s Flor O'Riordan's 3 Cheers took second on eight, and Alan Dwyer's Joxer was third on nine. On 12 equal points with Joker, Ricky O'Brien's J80 Slightly Steamy won the ECHO prize on countback.
Baltimore Sailing Club's Dehler 34 Ealu Wins IRC Three
With five points, Patrick Collins's Dehler 34 Ealu from BaltimoreSailing Club was the IRC Three winner. Colman Garvey and Kieran Kelleher's Dubois Quarter-Tonner Diamond was second on five points but lost out on the tie-break rule. Third overall was Conor Phelan's Farr Quarter-Tonner Anchor Challenge on eight. Tadg Dwyer's Huzar 30, Brazen Huzie was the ECHO winner.
Saoirse from Kinsale Yacht Club is IRC Four Winner
On three points, Richard Hanley's GK 24 Saoirse from Kinsale Yacht Club beat Mick Murphy's Moody 30 Shelly D from the host club in a three-boat turnout in IRC Four. ECHO was won by Tom Newman's Sittelle.
Nieulargo Triumphs in White Sails One IRC and ECHO
On three points, Denis Murphy & Annamarie Fegan's Nieulargo Grand Soleil 40 was the White Sails One IRC winner, beating clubmates James O Mahony/Dan Murphy in the X99, Anteex by four. Frank Caul/John Mulloy sailing Prince Of Tides were third on ten. ECHO was also won by Nieulargo.
Stewart Hosford in the Cork Harbour One Design Jap won White Sails Two ECHO division from Simon O Keeffe's, One off Classic Gaff Cutter Lady Min.
