Volvo Cork Week organisers intend to rerun Monday's abandoned coastal race later this week following the regatta's international jury decision to uphold a protest against the Royal Cork race committee on the opening day of the biennial regatta over a missing mark on its first coastal course.
Multiple competitor protests said 'Volvo 5' mark of the course was "not as per the location in the Sailing Instructions".
The incident occurred on leg four of the course and protests were taken under the Racing Rules of Sailing 34.
One competitor said they lost "around five minutes to boats astern of us as we sailed beyond the plotted position in search of the mark".
"No other marker was in the vicinity and no replacement or vessel with flag M", they stated.
The jury agreed with the protestors and granted redress. The jury said most of the fleet's score was significantly worse through no fault of their own.
The jury abandoned race one for the coastal class and also for classes two and three.
Organisers say they aim to return the race at some point this week. Racing continues until Friday.
