The overall Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta Coastal B division pre-event favourite lived up to the form guide when J109 Ruth won with a margin of over three minutes in the opening Bay Race of the 2025 event on Thursday (10 July).
The Tom Shanahan skippered entry, which is the reigning ISORA offshore champion, finished in a corrected time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, 02 seconds, to beat Paul Kirwan's Boomerang, entered under the burgee of Schull Harbour Sailing Club on 2:32:19 corr.

Third in the nine-boat fleet was Nigel Ingram's Pwllheli Sailing Club Darling XX on 2:34:53.
The Coastal B class were part of group one in the Bay Race, which comprised two groups on different courses with downwind starts, for a combined fleet of nearly 200 boats.
Race Officer Con Murphy postponed racing for 45 minutes because of visibility issues due to a sea fog.
When the action finally got underway, competitors enjoyed bright sunshine with a small chop and ebbing tide on Dublin Bay, with wind at 145 degrees, 10-12 mph.
