The recently crowned Sovereign's Cup Class Zero Champion have staked their claim to the same title in Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta by winning the opening Bay Race of the 2025 event on Thursday (10 July).
Living up to her form guide, Michael & Richard Evans' J112e The Big Picture won with a margin of one minute (2:21:49 corr) from Welsh IRC Champion, Ben Hodges, skipper of the South Caernarfonshire Corby 37 Impetuous on 2:22:46 corr. Third in class in the Bay Race was Patrick Burke's Prima Forte from the Royal Irish Yacht Club on 2:26:07 corr.

The IRC Zero class were part of group one in the Bay Race, which comprised two groups on different courses with downwind starts, for a combined fleet of nearly 200 boats.

Race Officer Con Murphy postponed racing for 45 minutes because of visibility issues due to a sea fog.

When the action finally got underway, competitors enjoyed bright sunshine with a small chop and ebbing tide on Dublin Bay, with wind at 145 degrees, 10-12 mph.
