The 10th Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta drew to a close on Sunday afternoon (July 13th) after a thrilling weekend of world-class sailing, blue skies and vibrant activity on and off the water. Almost 350 boats competed across five race courses on Dublin Bay, with the event marking a major highlight of the Irish sporting summer.

The four-day regatta welcomed over 1,600 sailors from 56 yacht clubs and saw racing in 36 classes - from high-performance international fleets to local club racers and newcomers. Spectators lined the shore to watch the action unfold, while thousands more took part in Coastival, Dun Laoghaire’s summer festival, which was going on throughout the weekend in tandem with Ireland’s largest sailing event.

Speaking on the final day, VDLR Event Chairman Don O'Dowd said, “We’ve had four days of stunning conditions and unforgettable racing. The sight of hundreds of boats out on the bay under blue skies, along with the ceremonial start and wide public participation, has made this a truly special 10th edition. We’re incredibly grateful to the sailors, the volunteers and the entire Dun Laoghaire community for their support”

Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta is co-hosted by Dun Laoghaire’s four waterfront yacht clubs - the Royal Irish, Royal St. George, National, and Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club - with the support of over 280 volunteers and an international team of race officials and judges.
On land, Coastival, hosted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added to the buzz with live music, food, balloon displays, Emergency Services Day and family-friendly attractions throughout the harbour town.
An Cathaoirleach Jim O’Leary said: “Coastival is about celebrating everything we love about Dún Laoghaire - from sailing to street entertainment, it’s been a weekend full of colour, community and summer spirit.”
