World Sailing has launched a call for feedback from the global sailing community as part of its review of Olympic events beyond the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

The review, mandated every four years under Regulation 11, requires at least four Olympic sailing events to be reassessed.

At the 2025 Annual Conference, World Sailing’s General Assembly voted to place the Men’s Kite, Women’s Kite, Mixed Dinghy, and Mixed Multihull events under review.

According to World Sailing, the 2026 General Assembly will vote on whether each event should be retained, updated with new equipment, or replaced altogether.

Options include:

  • Keeping the event and current equipment
  • Retaining the event with evolved equipment
  • Retaining the event but introducing entirely new equipment
  • Replacing the event (equipment to be decided)

If a vote supports changing equipment, a further review will follow, with final decisions expected in 2027.

A joint Events and Equipment Committee working group will assess the proposals.

Eligible contributors include Member National Authorities, World Sailing Class Associations, Continental Associations, Associate Members, Committees, Sub-committees, Commissions, and Race Officials.

Proposals must be submitted via email to [email protected] using the official template. The deadline is the 31st March 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted. All decisions are subject to final approval by the International Olympic Committee.
