Although a reduced ISORA fleet set off from Dun Laoghaire Harbour at 8 am on Saturday, some of the best Irish Sea offshore yachts are battling it out in an 80-mile race to Pwllheli in North Wales for the association's overall Wolf’s Head Trophy and ISORA Offshore Racing Championship title.
ISORA Race Officer Barry MacNeaney got race 15 underway in a 10 mph north-easterly breeze and choppy seas for the James Eadie Race, the season's final cross-channel race.
As Afloat reported earlier, the race course has been reversed after an earlier postponement.
Musto offshore series leader Vicky Cox and Peter Dunlop's Pwllheli J122 Mojito had a strong start off the West Pier, as did its rival for the title, the National Yacht Club's J109 Ruth (Shanahan family), as the fleet was led on port tack past Dun Laoghaire's East Pier by the J111 Jezebel.
The James Eadie is the penultimate race of the year, and it will be followed by September coastal races to conclude the 2024 season. ISORA has announced that the Irish night race will be on Friday, September 27th, a four-hour race starting at 18.00. The postponed Irish coastal race will be on Saturday, September 28th, with the usual 10.00 start for a five-hour race.
