Day four (Wednesday) of the 2025 ILCA 7 Under 21 World Championships saw tight racing in Dublin Bay, with the top five sailors pulling clear of the 70-boat gold fleet.
Australia’s Edward Reid continues to head the men's leaderboard, posting a string of top-three finishes, including three race wins, to keep first overall with 17 points, but only just.
Hot on his heels is Ole Schweckendiek of Germany. His consistent form – highlighted by two wins and a second-place finish – places him second on countback, also with 17 points.
Fellow Aussie Isaac Schotte holds third on 25 points, his performance boosted by two bullets and a solid showing across conditions in both Yellow and Blue fleets.
Reem Pulci Magen ISR was the day’s standout performer, with a win and a fourth that propelled him up the leaderboard, putting pressure on the boats ahead going into the final four races.
Israel’s Reem Pulci Magen has climbed to fourth, bouncing back from a DNF with several top-ten finishes. Greece’s Athanasios Kyfidis sits in fifth, just three points behind on 37.
Like Reid, fourth-placed Schotte had a mixed day, discarding a 28th before posting a seventh.
"It was pretty tricky out there, another long day and pretty shifty with the wind coming off the hill(s)," said Isaac Schotte AUS, who trails the two leaders by eight points in third place. "A day to keep the head out of the boat... a couple of costly mistakes means it wasn't the best day on the water but plenty more racing to come."
His discard came from a costly mistake when he dropped his mainsheet shortly after the start, leading to a capsize. However, his strong boat speed allowed him to recover some ground.
McDonnell Leads Irish Challenge
Ireland’s Fiachra McDonnell is the leading home sailor, staying in 17th place overall. The Royal St George Yacht Club sailor opened with a race win in the second Blue fleet race on Sunday, followed by consistent top third of results.

Further down, Tom Coulter (45th) and Daniel Palmer (30th in Silver) are among nine Irish sailors competing across both fleets. Other Irish names in the standings include Charlie Keating, Bobby Driscoll, and Andrew Kingston, who continue to gain valuable experience in this top-class international competition.
The 2025 ILCA U21 World Championships, hosted jointly by the Royal St George and National Yacht Clubs, feature sailors from over 38 countries.
After the strong southerly winds earlier this week, conditions on Dublin Bay appear set to remain offshore and westerly, meaning more shifty racing ahead for both the men’s and women’s fleets.
Thursday will be the penultimate day of racing, with two further races scheduled to set the stage for Friday’s finale.
