Saturday, 11th October saw the revival of the Dart 16 multihull National Championship hosted by Galway Bay Sailing Club.
Race officers Aoife Lyons, Margot Cronin and Dave Vinnell of GBSC left the shore on the committee boat "Skorpio" provided by owner Mark Wilson of GBSC.
The race area was set out in Galway Bay, and racing got underway promptly to take advantage of the light and very shifty winds, which the forecast predicted to drop completely by the afternoon.
With a small fleet of 420s also competing in the GBSC Junior regatta, the race officers swiftly completed three races.
Boats at that stage were struggling with the outgoing, strong tide and getting stuck on marks.
The dinghies were towed back to GBSC, and sailors were treated to delicious burgers cooked by Killian Mathieu on the terrace.
Dart 16 winners were:
- Yannick Lemonnier & Emily Clarke (GBSC)
- Sean Lemonnier & Cora Naughton (Blessington SC)
- Alan Henry & Alan Stamp (GBSC)
Prizes were presented by Alan Henry, Rear-Commodore Dinghies, at GBSC
1st Dart - Yannick Lemonnier and Emily Clarke
2nd Dart – Sean Lemonnier and Cora Naughton
3rd Dart - Alan Henry & Alan Stamp
Promoters GBSC is home to the largest Dart 16 fleet in Ireland, and the numbers attending this event were a promising sign of hopefully more Dart 16s racing on Galway Bay.
