On Sunday, November 17th, the RS400 Frostie Series continued at the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club (RNIYC) with challenging conditions on Belfast Lough.
A cool northwest wind ranging from 13 to 18 knots set the stage for three exciting races.
The competition kicked off with a general recall in Race 1, leading the committee boat to raise the black flag. However, the second attempt resulted in a clean start, showcasing tight competition.
By the top mark, Bob Espey and Michael Ferguson secured the lead, followed closely by Peter Kennedy and Stevie Kane in second, with Ross Kearney and Andrew Vaughan in third. Espey demonstrated remarkable sailing skills with a strategic move, effortlessly gliding past competitors. The race concluded with the top three maintaining their positions throughout.
In Race 2, the stakes rose as several teams encountered difficulties. Espey and Ferguson again displayed exceptional upwind speed, while Patrick Hamilton and Sam Kelly kept the heat on, contesting positions with Jocelyn Hill and Rowan Berry. Peter Kennedy and Stevie Kane, along with the Vaughan brothers, climbed the ranks during the last run.
Race 3 saw a reduced fleet as many helms faced challenges. Jocelyn Hill and Rowan Berry led initially but faced a fierce challenge from Espey and Ferguson, who made a notable downwind split to reclaim the lead. Ultimately, Espey and Ferguson secured the win, followed closely by Kennedy and Stevie Kane, with Kearney and Vaughan narrowly beating Hill and Berry to take third.
