Emily and Annabel Ridout from Ballyholme finished a commendable sixth overall in the 42-strong Gold fleet racing in the RS Feva Nationals at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club, Scotland, over the weekend of May 24/25, according to provisional results.

Their Black Flag in Race 4 was made up for by two fourths, a fifth and a sixth in the remaining four races. The four-day event was reduced to three with Day 2 blown out. Also in the top 20 were Ross and Martha Nolan from Royal North of Ireland YC at 17th.

Dalgety Bay lies on the North shore of the Firth of Forth, about nine miles from Edinburgh.

Another Ballyholme entry from the Ridout family, father and son Matthew and Peter, was well up the fleet too, finishing 12th.

Ben and Millie Greenhalgh won the event from Port Dinorwic SC in Wales, which also has a connection to Ballyholme, as their father, Simon, cut his teeth sailing Cadets at BYC.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
